Brian McLaughlin


Brian is responsible for leading the company in its mission to provide simple security systems through independent security dealers. As CEO, McLaughlin will be responsible for all aspects of the business and will be based out of the company’s Hudson, Wisconsin headquarters.
Brian McLaughlin was most recently president of Trimble Transportation Mobility, a global transportation logistics technology company. Prior to Trimble, McLaughlin was president of PeopleNet which he joined in 2001. At PeopleNet McLaughlin first led the product innovation and marketing groups. He later served as chief operating officer (COO), and became president in 2011. In his leadership and management roles, McLaughlin has helped to shape industry policy on standards and worked with a number of industry and market-focused organization on other technology and safety initiatives.

Russell Vail

Founder and Board Member

Russell has founded ten successful businesses over the last thirty years and is considered a serial entrepreneur. Most of Mr. Vail’s entities have been in the telecommunications and electronic security Industries. Mr. Vail also serves on many Security Industry Association boards and was one of the founding members of the Entrepreneurs Organization in Houston, Texas.

Brian Seemann

Founder and Board Member

Brian has an extensive technical and executive career in wireless and networking technologies, in leadership roles in early stage and mature organizations participating in all aspects of home & industrial communication & control. He has engaged in a successful string of start-up, medium and major companies, often in dealing in significant unit volumes. Brian was President of US Operations at Israeli & Silicon Valley-based DSP Group, the world’s largest IC supplier for DECT home communications and control. Prior to that, he was Director of Business Management & Operations at the Communication Technology Division of IC industry stalwart Xilinx. Xilinx had acquired start-up venture RocketChips, where Brian was GM of the Wireless Division. Brian was VP of Engineering at ITI, through its merger with what is today GE/Interlogix, launching many of the wireless security products still in the market today. At start-up EnScan and its acquirer Itron, he managed development on its highest volume wireless automated meter module line. He was Principal Engineer at Rosemount-Emerson, responsible for development on its highest volume industrial control transmitter.

Dan Morton

Chief Marketing Officer

As head of the firm’s marketing, Dan Morton is responsible for developing and executing marketing and branding strategies, product development and strategic planning for the end user experience. In addition, he manages the company’s marketing and channel distribution teams.

Mr. Morton joined ipDatatel in 2014 with over 20 years of experience in technology, telecommunications, Internet, and retail energy. Prior to joining ipDatatel, he was Sr. Director of Innovation and Home Solutions at NRG Energy, where he created and launched new, high-growth services to expand the company’s product offerings beyond retail energy.

Mr. Morton has sought out and marketed disruptive technologies while serving in leadership roles with several high growth companies including Microsoft, Vonage, AOL, and NRG. Mr. Morton has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Western Washington University.

Ron Long

Chief Operations Officer

As COO, Mr. Long is responsible for all operational aspects of the business including our core network and service infrastructure, service management, supply chain, manufacturing and logistics. In addition, he is also responsible for all of our hardware and software engineering and product management.Mr. Long joined ipDatatel in 2016 with over 25 years of experience building, operating, and delivering telecommunication services across military, corporate, and carrier networks.

Prior to joining ipDatatel, Mr. Long was most recently the Vice President of Operations at Greenwell Energy Solutions where he was responsible for product and service delivery as well as all facets of the company’s QSHE program. Previously, he has served in multiple executive leadership positions including Vice President of Global Operations and Vice President of Global Engineering with Harris CapRock Communications.

In his spare time, he enjoys cycling and fishing. He’s also a lifelong musician and regularly performs as part of a local trio resurrecting Bluegrass and Americana music for a new generation.

Todd Hokunson

Senior Vice President of Sales

As Senior Vice President of Sales, Todd Hokunson is responsible for leading the company’s Business Development, Enterprise Solutions, Inside Sales and Distribution teams, towards increased market share and sustainable growth, with increased profits and new business development.

Mr. Hokunson joined the company in 2016 with over 25 years of high-profile leadership roles with Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining ipDatatel, Mr. Hokunson spent the last eight years at Nortek Security & Control, where he was instrumental in new business development and strategic partnerships.

Mr. Hokunson has a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Long Island University. Mr. Hokunson played varsity football and lacrosse while at LIU.
